A turnkey custom home builder in Oregon, with finishing in its roots

Turnkey means you move in to a finished home: every room done, every surface finished, the punch list fixed before you get the keys. As a turnkey custom home builder in Oregon, J Roderick Young Custom Homes has an unusual advantage: the company started in 1991 as a paint and finish contractor, and Jeremy Young has spent over 30 years finishing woodwork, walls and exteriors in luxury homes.

In the company's own words: “We were part of a team of subcontractors that took Best of Show in the 1999 Street of Dreams.”

Finishers first, builders second

Before J Roderick Young built custom homes, it finished them. The Oregon Construction Contractors Board first licensed the business on December 10, 1991, under the name J Roderick Young Painting. In the company's words, Jeremy has “over 30 yrs of custom finishing woodwork in homes as big as 15,000 sq ft, and more than 400 new luxury custom homes, finishing all woodwork, walls and exteriors.”

That's finishing work on those homes, not 400 homes built. It matters because the finish is what you see and touch every day, and it's the part most builders hand to someone else. Here, the person running your job is an expert finisher.

What a finisher's standard looks like

3-4 coat woodwork

Woodwork is meticulously finished with a 3-4 coat finish. Look close and compare.

Quality paint, inside and out

Only high-quality interior and exterior paints on every custom home.

Sealed concrete

Driveways, patios and sidewalks are sealed right after the pour, which helps protect them from staining.

Finished work protected

Woodwork, concrete and hardwood floors are protected so other trades don't damage finished surfaces.

Smooth enamel

Enamel-finished closets and built-ins, smooth to the touch.

Every day on site

Jeremy is on the job site every day, inspecting each trade's work as it's done.

How the turnkey handover works

  1. STEP 1

    Walk-through a week out

One week before completion and passing the building final, we walk the house together and mark any imperfections either of us catches.

  2. STEP 2

    Fix before move-in

Everything marked is fixed before you move in.

  3. STEP 3

    Move in

You get the keys to a finished home.

  4. STEP 4

    One-year walk-through

After a full year, we come back to inspect the home with you and correct any building problems, as our written warranty states.
