J Roderick Young Custom Homes is an owner-led custom home builder in Happy Valley, Oregon, run by its president, Jeremy Young. The business began in Clackamas in 1991 as a paint and finish contractor, and the finishing standards from those years are still the thing that sets its homes apart.
From finish contractor to custom builder
The Oregon Construction Contractors Board first licensed the business on December 10, 1991, as J Roderick Young Painting. It started as one of Clackamas's paint contractors, finishing the woodwork, walls and exteriors of new luxury homes for other builders. The company incorporated in 1993 and today builds its own custom homes as J Roderick Young Custom Homes Inc.
In the company's words, Jeremy has “over 30 yrs of custom finishing woodwork in homes as big as 15,000 sq ft, and more than 400 new luxury custom homes, finishing all woodwork, walls and exteriors.” Very few builders have that hands-on finishing experience, and it shows in every house: woodwork meticulously finished with a 3-4 coat finish, and nothing finished left unprotected while other trades work.
